Honu Bakery in Honolulu, HONU BAKERY is looking for one baker to join our 27 person strong team. We are located on 1620 N School St. Our ideal candidate is attentive, motivated, and engaged.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and bake a variety of breads, following established recipes and procedures to ensure consistency and quality.
• Create and bake a range of pastries, such as croissants, muffins, and doughnuts, using precise measurements and techniques to achieve delicious and visually appealing results.
• Decorate cakes and other baked goods with icing, frosting, fondant, and other decorative elements, showcasing creativity and attention to detail.
• Help with the loading and unloading of supplies and groceries, including flour, sugar, butter, and other ingredients, ensuring that inventory is properly stocked and organized for production.
• Adhere to strict cleanliness and sanitation standards in the bakery, including regular cleaning of workstations, equipment, and utensils to ensure a safe and hygienic environment.
• Follow food safety guidelines and protocols to prevent cross-contamination, spoilage, and foodborne illnesses, maintaining high standards of food quality and safety.
• Monitor the quality of baked goods throughout the production process, conducting visual inspections, taste tests, and other quality control measures to ensure that products meet company standards.

Qualifications and Preferred Work Skillset

• Experience: Previous experience working as a baker or in a similar role in a bakery or food service environment is preferred. Experience with various baking techniques, equipment, and ingredients is advantageous.
• Knowledge of Baking Techniques: Proficiency in mixing, shaping, proofing, and baking a variety of breads, pastries, and desserts. Understanding of different doughs, batters, and leavening agents.
• Attention to Detail: Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately, ensuring consistency and quality in baked goods. Attention to detail in measuring ingredients, monitoring baking times and temperatures, and decorating finished products.
• Creativity: Some level of creativity in designing and decorating baked goods, including cakes, pastries, and specialty items. Ability to innovate and experiment with flavors, textures, and presentations.
• Physical Stamina: Baking can be physically demanding, requiring standing for extended periods, lifting heavy bags of flour and other ingredients, and working in a hot and fast-paced environment. Physical stamina and endurance are essential for success in this role.
• Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with other members of the bakery team, including bakers, pastry chefs, and assistants. Effective communication and cooperation skills to ensure smooth operations and timely completion of tasks.
• Food Safety Knowledge: Understanding of food safety and sanitation principles, including proper handling, storage, and hygiene practices. Knowledge of HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) and other food safety protocols is a plus.
• Flexibility: Willingness to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to meet production schedules and customer demand. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and multitask in a dynamic bakery environment.
