Otterbein University, a comprehensive liberal arts institution, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Criminology. We seek candidates with a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching and research, as well as to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, who will contribute to the department's efforts to enhance diversity and provide an inclusive learning environment for all.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Full-time faculty teach seven, three-credit-hour courses academic per year (a temporary course reduction for new faculty is available). Along with Department specific courses, the candidate may also teach Sociology courses in university-wide general education or interdisciplinary programs. All faculty are required to maintain an active research program incorporating undergraduate students and to contribute to the university through advising and service.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. in Sociology at time of appointment is required. Specialty area is Criminology. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate teaching excellence, an active program of scholarship involving undergraduates, teaching, advising, and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds, and the liberal arts tradition. Candidates should also demonstrate a strong background in research methods, intersectional perspectives, and theory.

Preference will be given to candidates with the ability to incorporate a critical criminology/social justice focus into classes in: 1) sociology of corrections; 2) sociology of police and courts; 3) sociology of law and justice studies; 4) research methods; 5) sociological and criminological theory; and 6) diversity offerings in sociology of gender, family, and inequality. Candidates should anticipate developing courses in their area of interest or specialty.

COMPENSATION : For the rank of Assistant Professor - $61,000 (plus full University benefits).

DEPARTMENT: The Department of Sociology, Criminology, and Justice Studies at Otterbein University currently has three full-time faculty and a number of committed and talented part-time faculty serving roughly 80 majors, along with our general education programs and students in Race and Ethnic Studies, Public Health Education, Legal Studies, and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. We offer a BA in Sociology, a BA in Criminology & Justice Studies, and minors in Sociology, Criminology & Justice Studies, and Justice Studies.
